UK Instructs How to Prepare for Storm Flooding

The UK has issued a severe flooding warning Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Their Met Office has issued good advice for anyone in the western world, guidelines on what to do if flood waters threaten your home.

Initially, besides turning on a battery operated or wind-up radio, they advise creating a flood kit that includes:

  • first aid kit
  • insurance documents
  • flashlight (“torch”)
  • food and water
  • proper clothing

It also advises what to do:

  • when an alert becomes a warning
  • when flooding next occurs in your home
  • if you can’t find your insurance documents
  • when the flood ends and you have damage
  • if you have to leave your property
